Random Encounter 311 The Game Awards 2024 with Geoff Keighley and Hideo Kojima as horrible merged faces with Muppets Statler and Waldorf

On this episode of Random Encounter, we’re chatting about gaming’s biggest night: The Game Awards 2024!

After a few rocky years, The Game Awards have finally hit their stride for their 10th anniversary. There were some astonishing reveals, wonderful tributes, and a surprising amount of empathy for those struggling in today’s gaming industry. With announcements ranging from the epic (The Witcher IV) to the epically unexpected (Elden Ring Nightreign) this show had it all. All in all, it was a pretty fun three-plus hours!

With so much to talk about, we’ve assembled a panel ready to dive into the details of the show and chat about all the games that have us excited for 2025 and beyond!

Featuring: Jono Logan, Claton Stevenson, Gio Castillo, and Tin Manuel; Edited by Jono Logan

Jonathan (he/him), or Jono for short, is the host of Random Encounter and the Reviews Manager for RPGFan. While reviewing a game, he has been known to drink up to 10 cups of tea to keep focused (Earl Grey, milk, no sugar). Fun fact: Jono holds a Masters of Music Theatre degree, which is only slightly less useful than it sounds.

I completely agree about those jerk bullies. I also think the jerks are currently too busy harassing Intergalactic to jump on Witcher 4. Also, just wanted to say that I read that CDPR said after the Game Awards that in the actual game, you'll have the ability to save the villager/sacrifice from being murdered. They didn't say how you'd work that out. Statler & Waldorf were great - they had me rolling!! 🏆 I have one final award. The Most Overlooked Announcement from the Game Awards for a very interesting-looking game - Dispatch. Looking forward to seeing more of it!!

Agreed, Jbumi! Dispatch looks really cool. Given the caliber of the pair that introduced it, I thought we'd be in for another battle royal, or shooter, or anything else that there's already too many of. I was absolutely NOT expecting a Telltale-style adventure game. And the setting is really fun, too. I think it has a ton of potential.
