Capcom has revealed the first trailer for Dragon’s Dogma 2 during today’s PlayStation Showcase. The trailer gives players a first look at in-game footage for the action RPG sequel, originally announced as part of its ten-year anniversary.

The preview above showcases the Arisen (the player character) in frenetic combat both martial and magical against a host of mythological creatures, including the likes of medusa, griffins, ogres, and the eponymous dragon. It promises versatility in its combat with the Arisen wielding a variety of melee and ranged weaponry alongside magic capable of destroying and affecting the environment around them.

In a brief blog post on PlayStation Blog, Capcom’s Ken Mendoza has confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be a single-player action RPG “following in the footsteps” of Dragon’s Dogma. An overview of what can be expected in the sequel and its story lies below, sourced from its official website.

Overview

Dragon’s Dogma is a single player, narrative driven action-RPG that challenges players to choose their own experience – from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations and more.

On your journey, you’ll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure.

All of these elements are elevated further by the latest in graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) and physics technology to create a truly immersive fantasy world in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Story

The story begins in an underground gaol where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.

Ascend, Arisen, and best me, in accordance with the dogma of this world.

Betwixt the domains of human and beastren, a hero must fulfill their forgotten destiny.

What dogma does your heart see through your eyes?

‘Tis a tale of one who shall slay the Dragon and claim the throne.

As it stands, it looks like Dragon’s Dogma 2 looks to be a modern return to its world replete with the cutting-edge improvements that an eleven-year gap between sequels provides. I’m both curious and excited to see how the sequel differentiates itself from its predecessor in an age where fantasy RPGs are plenty. If Capcom’s current pedigree is anything to judge by, and I believe it is, then fans and new players alike are most likely in for an enjoyable time.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. No formal release date has been given, though you can be sure that RPGFan will report on it when it is announced.
