Bandai Namco has announced that the upcoming action RPG adaption Sand Land will be released on April 26th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The announcement came via a flashy new trailer that sets the scene for its story, weaving between scenes of initial tragedy, vehicular traversal, mysterious characters, and more. Check it out below!

Sand Land Release Date Trailer

Sand Land was initially announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest and acts as a full-scale video game adaption of the eponymous 2000s manga penned and drawn by industry legend Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Doctor Slump). The series is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that has suffered the loss of its primary water supply, leaving its inhabitants in dire straits. There, protagonist Beezlebub and his friend Thief join forces with a crotchety sheriff named Rao to find the Legendary Spring.

As seen in the trailer above, the three protagonists are joined by a mechanic named Ame, who will most likely act as a mode for vehicle upgrades and customisation. These vehicles range from slow-moving hovercars and gun-laden tanks to bipedal jump-bots and jet-fuelled racecars. For further details on some of these vehicles and the overall story of Sand Land, check out PlayStation Blog. Digital and physical pre-orders are available now.

As someone who enjoyed the initial run of Sand Land when I was barely a teenager, I’m curious to see how this adaption folds out on release. Vehicular combat and customisation in the new decade of RPGs seem to be something of a rare art, so I’m hoping that this game scratches that itch when it eventually comes out later this year.
