Given this flood of blockbuster titles, it can be easy to lose sight of the smaller, simpler RPGs being produced in Japan. Indie developer METASLA has announced one such game, Sea Fantasy, coming to yet-unnamed consoles and PC via Steam. Sea Fantasy is described as an open-world action RPG centered around fishing and maritime exploration.
METASLA shared three trailers on its YouTube channel, showcasing the game in three languages: English (above), Japanese, and Korean. Meanwhile, the Steam page promises support for traditional and simplified Chinese.
Established in 2022, METASLA is a team of three based in Nagoya, Japan. So far, it has released several mobile games, including Monster Fishing RPG, which, judging by visual and mechanical similarities, very much appears to be the basis of Sea Fantasy. Although we don’t know what engine the game is built on, it certainly appears like an RPG Maker game; that is not a slight, given the quality of games produced using that platform.
RPGFan will be keeping a (fish)eye on Sea Fantasy‘s development, hoping for a trophy catch rather than something only worthy of a catch and release.
