They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but ATLUS wants you to get it while it’s hot with Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Pre-orders are open now for physical and digital editions of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Switch pre-orders are physical only at this point, but details on the digital version are coming soon.

Alongside the announcement came a new extended cut of the reveal trailer (below), which was first shown at last week’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.

Said to be the “definitive experience” of the previously Switch-locked Shin Megami Tensei V, Vengeance will launch globally on June 21st, 2024. Players will be able to choose between two scenarios: the Canon of Creation will follow the original release, and the Canon of Vengeance will feature a divergent story, new characters, new areas, and an exclusive dungeon. Those pre-ordering the game can also expect a few in-game bonuses:

[…] two “Sacred Treasure” sets, in-game items designed to aid players during their journey through Da’at. This set includes the “Gleam Grenade” which inflicts a small amount of damage to foes and the “Haraedo Bead” which recovers the HP of all allies. Both can be used infinitely in battles.

Most fans will be very pleased with the upcoming release given the game’s former single-console status, but one prominent YouTuber has expressed his disappointment in this decision. Speaking on his weekly news roundup show HitPoint, SuperDerek RPGs discussed his love for the original game and lamented that the 100+ hours he spent completing and producing video content about it was made obsolete by Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

With the dual successes of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload and the impending release of the ATLUS-published Unicorn Overlord and now Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, it’s feeling like 2024 could be the year of SEGA/ATLUS, and I’m so here for it.

"...his love for the original game and lamented that the 100+ hours he spent completing and producing video content about it was made obsolete by Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance." People need to stop worrying about this. You loved it, spent a bunch of time in it, so who cares they're putting a new one out?! Play it or not, it shouldn't diminish the enjoyment you got out of the original. Just like the original Persona 3. Just as it was releasing in the West, Atlus was putting FES out in the East. At the time, they swore FES was going to stay exclusive to the East & only the original game would come West. So, of course, being a gullible fool, I believed them & bought P3. Then, naturally, about 6 months or so down the line, they release FES in the West. I never bought or played FES. I thoroughly enjoyed P3 as it was & was very happy with the ending & saw no need to rebuy it for the additional content.
